Dr. Vrishali is the Consultant and Multi Organ Transplant Surgeon at Deenanth Mangeshkar Hospital, Pune. She specializes in hepatobiliary – pancreas and multi organ transplant (liver, pancreas, kidney, small bowel) and is a passionate leader and advocate in organ donation.

She is the first and only multi organ transplant female surgeon in India who has performed liver, kidney, pancreas and intestine transplant in both adults and children. And is also the first transplant surgeon to perform a simultaneous kidney and pancreas transplant in Maharashtra.

Dr. Vrishali’s academic record reflects her exemplary skills and knowledge of transplant surgery. She earned her medical degree from the University of Pune in India and completed General Surgery and Hepatobiliary- Pancreatic Surgery training in India. She completed her post-doctoral training in hepatobiliary and vascular surgery in Manchester, England and is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh UK. Followed by transplant surgery fellowships at both Henry Ford Hospital and at the University of Wisconsin in liver, kidney, and pancreas transplant. Dr. Vrishali is also a post-doctoral fellow in solid organ transplant from the Strong Memorial Hospital at University of Rochester, New York and is certified by the board of American Society of Transplant Surgeons in transplant surgery. She has also participated in small bowel and multivisceral transplantation.

As a transplant surgeon, Dr. Vrishali has always been very passionate about teaching undergraduate and post-graduate students in the field of surgery and organ transplantation. She has been a strong proponent of organ donation programs and continues to teach in hospitals and Intensive Care Units in being organ donor advocates. Her aim is to bring in transplant and organ donation into our community so that it becomes a regular standard of treatment such that it is available with ease to anyone who needs an organ transplant.

Her current project focuses on encouraging more women to come forward for transplantation. There is a great gender gap in India for female patients with end stage organ disease who need organ transplant but are unable to undergo transplant due to social and cultural difficult circumstances and financial constraints. There is a certain stigma for women with end organ disease. Dr Vrishali is working towards creating more awareness and opportunities for women who will benefit from Transplant Surgery.

Dr. Vrishali has been involved with multiple transplant research projects and trials and has presented at international conferences, and has published papers in peer-reviewed journals.
